Cara Putman, Clinical Associate Professor in the Daniels School of Business, has been an avid Video Express user since 2016. She primarily uses the tool to record brief, 8- to 12-minute videos introducing students to content that will be covered in class.

“It gives them one more way to interact with the content where it’s not just reading the textbook or viewing slide,” she said. “People learn in different ways, so it provides another mechanism for students get that key content multiple times.”

For those instances when technical difficulties arise, user support from the Purdue IT Service Desk is just a phone call away.

“A few times a video has gotten hung up in the system and didn’t publish. When that happens, the Purdue IT staff has been so helpful,” Putman said. “So, if you’ve never used this type of technology, don’t let that hold you back. There are staff and experts who can make it a very seamless process for you.”

Earlier this year, Catharine Patrone, Chief of Staff, John Martinson Honors College, used Video Express for the first time to create a video pitch for a conference proposal. Patrone said she appreciates how Video Express is equipped with Purdue branding, a feature that also earned positive feedback from the conference review board. “I know that is something I could not replicate in my office with a desktop video,” she added.

As someone inexperienced with video production and editing, Patrone praised the simplicity of Video Express, from scheduling to uploading the final edited video.

“I could easily follow the instructions and do it from start to finish,” she said. “I would highly recommend the Video Express rooms to other faculty and staff. It’s an excellent resource that’s provided by Purdue IT and so as we continue to be good stewards of University’s resources, people should be using the Video Express rooms.”
