The importance of Information Technology integrity in ensuring data validity has never been greater. Recent events have heightened our awareness of the risks and vulnerabilities we face. Consequently, research institutions worldwide are adapting their operations to achieve certification and compliance with standards such as ISO and NSPM-33.
To remain at the forefront of technological advancement, we must adopt practices that may seem unfamiliar or contrary to our previous operations. It is essential to acknowledge that the criteria for providing successful and meaningful research have evolved, and so must we.
In recent years, Purdue IT has diligently pursued systems and processes to ensure compliance with the regulations and requirements of our grantors. We have implemented Jamf Pro for Apple devices and MECM for Windows, and we are currently developing systems for our Linux/Unix environments. Additionally, we are revising the university’s electronic device policy, which can be found here: https://www.purdue.edu/policies/information-technology/viia4.html
Adherence to this policy and enrollment in these systems is mandatory. Significant efforts have been made to minimize the impact on daily operations. Purdue IT is committed to working collaboratively to provide the best user service and to ensure compliance in this new era of secure computing.
Enrollment into these systems is designed to respect user privacy. Purdue IT has no intention of monitoring individual usage. The primary focus is on protecting the University’s infrastructure while ensuring that academic freedom and integrity are maintained. While the software increases security, it does not compromise the privacy of individual users.
To date, nearly 30,000 Windows devices are being serviced by MECM, and more than 4,100 Apple devices have been enrolled in Jamf Pro.
If you have a device that needs to be enrolled (or you are unsure if it has been enrolled), please submit a ticket to the Purdue IT Service Desk either at the service portal (https://service.purdue.edu) or by emailing it@purdue.edu.
