Purdue enters agreement to reduce cost of licenses for Zoom
The Purdue University system has entered into an agreement to use Zoom, the remote conferencing tool, which will allow departments to utilize the service at a heavily discounted rate, and allow instructors to use the tool for virtual classrooms.
The agreement will allow departments at the West Lafayette, Northwest and Fort Wayne campuses use the Zoom remote conferencing tool by purchasing use licenses at a price 70 percent off the regular rate and 50 percent lower than the educational bulk rate. This new agreement will allow the consolidation of the various accounts already using Zoom with their @purdue.edu, @pnw.edu, or @pfw.edu e-mail accounts to conduct university business. This will ensure that approved security procedures are being followed, and that enterprise tools can be properly configured to integrate with Zoom.
Within the next few weeks, all Zoom accounts registered with a Purdue e-mail address (from all three campuses, paid or free) will be consolidated into the central enterprise agreement. Information will be available on how departments can order licenses; there is already some documentation that can be referenced here: https://www.pnw.edu/information-services/services/zoom/.
Zoom is authorized for use of Sensitive and FERPA data with caution. It is not authorized for use of Restricted/Proprietary, HIPAA, GLBA, or Controlled-Unclassified data. For more information, please visit the SecurePurdue page.
Purdue will also continue to provide faculty and staff with access to the web-conferencing tool WebEx at no cost.
Virtual classroom tool
As part of the agreement, Zoom will also be integrated within the D2L Brightspace learning management system and can be used as a virtual classroom tool for online courses and to facilitate interaction with students who are not able to participate in face-to-face instruction.
Courses seeking to use Zoom must have a license, which will be charged to the department. More information about using Zoom and obtaining a license is provided by Purdue Northwest, which is overseeing the Purdue system account.
