Effective October 2023, Microsoft is removing the ability for users of their Office 365 services to use SMS/Text as the primary means to authenticate. The Microsoft Authenticator mobile app is their recommended solution. The app can be downloaded directly from Microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/mobile-authenticator-app 

Users will see a prompt after logging into any Microsoft 365 application (Outlook, Word, online portal, etc.). They will have the option to download Microsoft Authenticator or choose “Not Now” up to 3 login times. After the third time of choosing “Not Now,” Microsoft will no longer allow your use of SMS/Text to authenticate.
