Increased security settings for Microsoft 365 applications

On February 26, Purdue University will adjust settings to increase security within the Microsoft 365 environment. These changes will impact users including faculty, staff and students at Purdue’s West Lafayette and Indianapolis locations as well as faculty and staff at Purdue Northwest.

Changes that may impact the end user include:

  • Lockout threshold and duration changing to 3 failed attempts and a 15-minute lockout
  • SharePoint will log out user sessions after 4 hours of idle time
  • Teams meeting recordings will automatically be deleted after 180 days (reduced from 400 days), however meeting hosts can download recordings

Implementing these changes is part of Purdue IT’s process for identifying locations within SharePoint where restricted data may be shared and stored in the future.

Users who experience problems with Microsoft 365 can report an issue to the Service Desk at online at service.purdue.edu.
