Students invited to participate in campus IT Challenge Day with $4,000 in prizes
Purdue students interested in taking on information technology challenges in areas such as programming and Linux, cybersecurity and cyber forensics, systems analysis and design, and more are invited to a campus IT Challenge Day on Saturday, March 24.
More than $4,000 in prizes will be awarded to winning individuals and teams, among them Amazon Echos, Moto E smartphones, Pico3 Rock64 mini cluster computers, Intel Compute Sticks and wireless routers and cards. Subway sandwiches and Insomnia cookies will be served during the awards ceremony.
Check-in is at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The challenges run from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m and the awards ceremony will be from 7 to 8 p.m. The event will take place in the Forney Hall of Chemical Engineering, Room G140. You must register online to attend. Registration will run until capacity is reached. Visit http://purdueaitp.com/it-challenge-day for more information.
The day consists of six two-hour challenges, held in pairs. Students can sign up for one challenge, two challenges, or even one challenge in each pair (three challenges). The AITP, SIGApp, and cyber forensics challenges allow for individual or two-person teams. All other challenges are for individuals. The challenges are not revealed until the day of the event.
Since the challenges are mysteries until the event begins there is no preparation required. Students from any major or club can show up with what they know and a laptop, and expect to learn new skills, discover new things, and meet new people.
The event is sponsored by the Purdue chapters of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Special Interest Group on Applied Computing (SIGAPP), the Purdue Linux Users Group, Purdue Cyber Forensics Club, and ITaP Research Computing.
