Purdue IT’s BoilerBot automates password resets

Changing your Purdue career account password has never been easier, thanks to a new feature from the BoilerBot chatbot.

By visiting boilerbot.purdue.edu, users can request to reset their Purdue career account password in as little as five minutes in the event of a forgotten password or security breach. To use the chatbot, users will need to have access to their Purdue email account or BoilerKey on their mobile device.

BoilerBot eliminates the need to phone or email the Purdue IT Service Desk for password creation unless the user no longer has access to email or BoilerKey. BoilerBot can also provide users with a passcode when users have lost access to their phone, or because they have not set up BoilerKey self-recovery.

To use BoilerBot to reset your password you can:

  • Option A: When a user has access to BoilerKey, BoilerBot guides the user on how to utilize the Password Reset Tool found at https://www.purdue.edu/apps/account/flows/ResetPassword.

  • Option B: When a user does not have access to BoilerKey, BoilerBot confirms if the user can still receive email on their device (Phone, Tablet, Computer), and then verifies the user’s Purdue ID, date of birth and username. Once the user is verified, an Account Setup Code will be generated and emailed to the user’s Purdue Email along with instructions on how to reset their password.

Purdue IT is continuing to investigate additional tasks that BoilerBot can accomplish, with the goal of reducing call volumes to its Service Desk and speeding up time to resolution for customers. For users who need additional help resetting their career account password, contact it@purdue.edu
