Purdue University Vice President for Information Technology and CIO Ian Hyatt was recognized by the Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ) as a Tech Exec of the Year in the not-for-profit category. The award honors those in executive-level technology positions who play vital roles in making Indianapolis-area businesses, institutions, and nonprofit groups successful.

Ian Hyatt IBJ Award

The IBJ award is not the only recent accolade for Hyatt. Earlier this month, he earned recognition as a member of The Wall Street Journal CIO Network, a collective community of leading technology experts from the world’s most influential companies. Purdue University is the only higher education institution represented in the CIO Network. In addition, Education Technology Insights magazine named Hyatt among the Top 10 Education CIOs for 2023.

“It is a privilege to represent Purdue University and be recognized by these esteemed publications. I wouldn’t have achieved any of this without the incredible Purdue IT team.” Hyatt said. “I am exceedingly proud of the work we’re doing within Purdue IT and across the university system, and I appreciate the opportunity to provided visibility to our achievements.”

Hyatt joined Purdue in June 2021. He oversees IT services across the Purdue system, which includes nearly 700 employees. Prior to Purdue, Hyatt was the vice president of global services, logistics and fleet for IGT Providence and held several other vice president roles within IGT. In May 2022, he retired as the State Command Chief Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force and Rhode Island Air National Guard, where he served since 1985.
