An update to the Alertus emergency response notification system is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 22, and users will need to reboot their computers to ensure that they can continue to receive emergency notifications.
The Alertus notification system is used to warn campus when emergency events occur – such as dangerous weather – and sends an alert that blocks users’ screens until it is acknowledged. The server update is scheduled to take place over the weekend, and University computers on campus should be left on from 5 p.m., Friday, May 21, through Monday morning (May 24). University-supported computers off campus should be logged into VPN to receive the update.
Machines that do not receive the software update should continue to receive notices from Alertus, but will not contain the latest patch set. The update will occur the next time they log into the University network.
The Alertus upgrade will not affect email or text message notifications. To sign up for Alertus notifications on personal devices, visit https://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/health_safety/mail.html.
