Whether you just purchased a new phone or have lost your phone, setting up a BoilerKey connection is vital to connecting to many of the tools and services needed at Purdue. Follow the steps below to re-establish BoilerKey:
Get access to BoilerKey with help from BoilerBot:
- Go to boilerbot.purdue.edu
- Respond with “Yes” to indicate that you would like help with a BoilerKey bypass code
- Provide your Purdue ID number (with the two leading zeros and no dashes), Purdue username, and your date of birth
- Confirm that the information entered is correct
- BoilerBot will generate a nine-digit passcode that will also be emailed to you
- Log into BoilerKey by using your career account username and enter your username and BoilerKey passcode using your four-digit pin followed by a comma and the newly generated passcode (pin, passcode)
- You can use this method to log in into BoilerKey and to set up a new phone (see “Setting up BoilerKey on New Phone” below)
Get access to BoilerKey with help from Self-Recovery
- This step only works for people who have previously registered their phone number with BoilerKey Self-Recovery
- Go to purdue.edu/boilerkey and select “Self-Recovery”
- Enter your career account login, 10-digit Purdue ID number (formatted as xxxxx-xxxxx), and date of birth
- A text message will be sent to your phone, enter the verification code onto the screen
- You are logged into the BoilerKey self-serve page, and can now set up BoilerKey on your new phone (see “Setting up BoilerKey on New Phone” below)
Setting up BoilerKey on New Phone
- Go to purdue.edu/boilerkey and click on the “Manage” tile.
- Log into BoilerKey using a method listed above.
- On the BoilerKey Self-Service page, click “Add or Remove your Duo Mobile BoilerKeys”
- Click on “Remove” to remove an old device

Lost phone and don’t have a replacement? How to access BoilerKey without your phone
If you have lost access to your phone and need to access a service protected by BoilerKey, there are two methods available:
- Use BoilerBot to generate a bypass code (see above) and log into BoilerKey using your four-digit pin followed by a comma and the newly generated passcode (pin, passcode). You may need to generate a new bypass code every time you log into BoilerKey.
- Go to purdue.edu/BoilerKey and click on the “Manage” tile, then log in to BoilerKey using one of the methods above. On the self-service page, click “Obtain List of BoilerKey One-Time Use Backup Codes.” Generate a list of 10 codes on the next page; each code can be used to log into BoilerKey using your four-digit pin followed by a comma and one of the 10 generated passcodes (pin, passcode). Each passcode is available for use once; after all 10 have been used, you can revisit the site and generate another list of passcodes.
Need help?
If you have forgotten your four-digit pin, do not have access to your Purdue ID number, or have other issues with BoilerKey, you should call the IT customer service center associated with your campus. More information can be found on the BoilerKey Frequently Asked Questions page.
