To ensure that university assets are protected, Purdue IT will be adjusting the monthly update process for IT-managed Windows laptops at West Lafayette and Indianapolis. In an effort to avoid causing interruption or issues we are implementing a 7-day reboot deferral after patches are installed as part of the monthly maintenance.
What to expect:
- Automatic Installation: Updates will be installed automatically during the scheduled deployment window. No user action is required.
- Reboot Grace Period: If a reboot is needed to finish applying updates, users will have 7 days to restart their laptop before a forced reboot occurs.
- Daily Reminders: A notification dialog will appear once every 24 hours during the 7-day grace period to remind users of the pending reboot.
- Final Countdown: When only 1 hour remains, a final dialog with a countdown timer will appear, giving users a last chance to save work and restart manually.
- Automatic Reboot: After the 7-day window expires, the laptop will automatically reboot and close all applications to complete the update.
